Zoom for Success? Embracing Online Coaching in 2020
Facetime, House Party, Skype, Google Hangouts…Just a few of the communication tools and apps we have used to connect during the long, socially distanced months of 2020. But the clear winner of all apps is without a doubt Zoom. Whether it’s a yoga class, or sourdough baking lesson, a work meeting or sales coaching session, birthday party or book club, Zoom has been the go-to app to keep us connected and fill our locked down days.
Once geared towards the business world, Zoom launched into another stratosphere when Covid-19 arrived on our doorstep. In December 2019, Zoom had 10 million users worldwide. Jump to April 2020 and the number has increased to over 300 million users.
And it’s not hard to see why. Zoom is quick and easy to use, has a high call quality, allows you to record your meetings and share screens and videos over the call. Meetings can have up to 100 participants and with their large meeting add-on, you can increase that to 1,000.
Zooming into our lives
2020 has seen our work and home lives merge, with many of us being forced to work and study from home. Once upon a time only the most flexible of employers would allow their employees to work from home. Now businesses and educational institutions can only continue functioning with the engagement of ‘at home’ employees or students and online communications tools such as Zoom.

Home schooled kids, fluffy pooches, and online shopping deliveries occasionally appear across the screen. And that’s totally fine with us. This is real life and we’ve all had to adapt. We don’t care if you’re business up the top, PJs down the bottom!
And the other bonus of Zoom? No travel = no peak hour traffic. That’s a win/win for everyone!
